Stargate Worlds: Developer Interview

January15

The folks over at TenTonHammer have a good interview up with the folks at Cheyenne Mountain about the upcoming Stargate Worlds MMO. Here’s a quick excerpt about how combat works:

“The combat system is definitely unique among MMORPGs, and we definitely have a combat focus. We had to think of a different way to do combat, simply because we had characters with energy and projectile weapons running around. It wouldn’t be very likely, in our world at least, to have a character get hit over the head with a sword.

That said, we’re definitely not an FPS or a twitch-based game. The game is more along the lines of a typical MMORPG in that you’ll be clicking on your enemy, but the way the combat moves is going to be very unique. You enemies will use cover, and there’ll definitely be different techniques that you’ll need to employ to actually succeed in combat. How you manage your group and the targets you’ve acquired will be a big step in how our combat system works. “

It is a good interview, so go check it out and see what you think.

Stargate Worlds Trailer Coming

January1

The upcoming MMO Stargate Worlds will be releasing a trailer soon. When Stargate Atlantis returns this Friday, January 4th, they will air a trailer sometime during the show. I doubt that it will reveal much, but at least it demonstrates that they are making progress on the game.

If you go to the site I linked, you can also enter a contest to have your “likeness” incorporated into the game world. I wouldn’t mind having my face on one of the banker NPC’s. Each time you need money, you would see my face.

Stargate Worlds: I Pray For Goodness

December27

Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are two of my most favorite television programs. I watch them any time they are on. In my geeky way, I feel that I know the Stargate universe rather well.

Needless to say, when Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment announced that they are working on an MMO based on the Stargate universe, I was giddy as a schoolgirl. They have named it Stargate Worlds, and I hope and pray that they make it good. It will be a welcome change from all of these fantasy-based elf games.

There’s not much information about the game yet. It isn’t going to be released until the fall of 2008 at the earliest, so I have plenty of time to learn about what they are going to do with it. I think the opportunities are endless when you’re working with an IP like this. They have 10 years worth of SG-1 shows to take ideas from. I am excited at the thought of going to a completely different type of world and environment each time I step through a stargate. The possibilities and gaming experiences are practically endless. If they build it right, we’ll have a huge variety of worlds to go to, each possibly requiring a different play style to get things accomplished.

We have a long time to go before we find out how this game plays. You can be certain that my eye is firmly placed on this upcoming MMO. I pray for goodness.
