Vanguard Pisses Me Off – AGAIN

January15

Look, it is a well-known fact that Vanguard has its share of problems.  Coming back, I was willing to overlook them in the hopes that I would like the game enough to continue with it.  With that said, I’ve just about had enough with these stupid quest problems.  The same quest line that gave me major problems earlier now has me banging my head against a wall again.

I am on the next phase of the URT: Undead Envoy quest line.  The quest is named “Soul and Brain Power.”  The objective is to run over to Veshka’s Monastery, kill a few of Veshka’s followers, and aquire a brain and torso from their bodies.  I also needed to go to the graveyard behind the monastery and absorb the spirit of a Wandering Spirit that can be found there.  Veshka’s Monastery can be found along the road east of Misthaven.

I easily found the monastery and killed a few of Veshka’s followers that were milling around outside. I quickly obtained the brain and torso.  I then ran around the back of the building and found the graveyard.  It is full of aggressive undead.  I spotted the Wandering Spirit and watched what he was doing.  The Spirit will slowly wander around the graveyard, which made this part of the quest much easier.  I killed several of the undead to clear out a corner of the graveyard.  I then waited for the spirit to wander past.  I used the URT Spirit Absorber when he came into range and it was done in an instant.  So far things are going great.

Quest completed, I ran back to Misthaven to turn in the quest to Helave Velore.  Just one problem.  She doesn’t think I have completed the quest.  My quest journal shows all objectives complete.  The quest tracker shows everything complete.  Why won’t this bitch acknowledge it?  I tried putting all the items in the bank and then logging out.  I put the items back into my bags upon re-entering the game but that didn’t work when I tried to turn them in again.

This is frustrating beyond belief.  How long has this game been out?  As a casual player, I don’t have the time or inclination to be put through crap like this.  I want to have fun playing a game, not cursing at my screen and writing articles like this one.  Right now, I can’t see paying to play this game when my free time is up.  Why should I when everything I try to do is broken?

So, I just submitted a comment, but wasnt logged in, guess it got lost. So if I’m doubleposting, sorry :) Anyway, just wanted to let you know that these quests (URT) have generally worked most of the time. It looks like the last patch right before Christmas broke several of the quests in this questline. Hopefully they will have them fixed in the next update, probably next week (Anniversary Patch). I’ve done this questline multiple times with multiple characters, but this weekend my wife and I started up new chars and came across exactly the same issues you mention. In addition, there’s another URT quest in Renton Keep (have to find unstable burster beetles) that’s recently broken. Yesterday afternoon my wife and I /petition’ed both quests and got quest credit last night. Actually, the GM went ahead and gave me credit for the Souls and Brain quest too, even though I hadnt gotten there yet. It was Sunday, so it took several hours. Usually they are quicker than that. :)

One thing I will mention is that there is one mechanic that seems to be buggy. It doesnt happen all the time, but sometimes it does. There are a couple points in URT where you complete some event and a quest accept pop-up appears. The problem is that sometimes, you can’t click Accept, and there’s no way to advance the quest until you petition. Between my wife and I, we’ve probably done the questline 10 times total, and it usually happens to one of us each time, so I’d say your chances are 50/50.

But aside from this questline recently, I really don’t usually find too many quests in VG that are bugged, but this questline, for whatever reason, seems to be more susceptible than most. But, when I have had a problem the GMs are always prompt and helpful.

Overall, I think VG has come a huge way in fixing and resolving bugs, and for the most part it runs pretty well. But sometimes something like this happens and I can’t believe the devs would allow it to stay in game any longer than necessary, as new players utilize these questlines, and it just reinforces the reputation of being buggy, when overall, I don’t think it’s that bad. You know, ESPECIALLY when they”ve got people playing on free time. I just don’t get it.

Anyway, neat blog and good luck, and sorry you had so much frustration.
